“Kappy” is right. It is a violation of the NEC to replace a two-prong receptacle with a three prong. There are only three things that the Code allows in your situation: 1) Replace the receptacle with a two prong receptacle (this won’t help, in your case). 2) Install a third (equipment grounding) conductor from a new grounded receptacle back to the panel. The panel must be grounded by bonding to a metallic water line with the correctly sized Grounding Electrode Conductor. The grounding conductor you install should be run along the same path as the conductors supplying the receptacle, and must be green insulated or bare. It should also be copper if it is #14 AWG. It also will require a bonding jumper from the device to the metal box. 3) The last LEGAL option is to install a GFCI receptacle. In this case, the Code requires the receptacle to be marked “No equipment ground”, as all the receptacle is doing is providing ground fault protection for persons; there still is no equipment groundin
