IF, and only IF, the spelling mistake or grammatical error makes the translation difficult, or impossible, or if the translator could be seriously misled by the error, then a POLITE correction is to be WELCOMED. For example, if someone posted; ‘Plaese can you tell I, Italian word for ‘transatlion’?’, you would not correct ‘Plaese’ or ‘I’, but you might correct ‘transatlion’ if people were becoming confused by it. While most of the posts to the newsgroup are in English, many members have English as a second, or higher ordinal, language and maybe a very limited knowledge. It is very inhibiting for them to think that any error they make will be subject to ridicule. DON’T DO IT! It is quite literally Netabuse, and could result in a complaint to your ISP, because it effectively disrupts the newsgroup activity.
