What is the Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass?
The Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass is the surgery of choice for the morbidly or super obese individual. It is associated with greater long-term weight loss and minimal metabolic complications when compared with vertical banded gastroplasty or other simpler gastric procedures. The procedure may reduce or eliminate existing co-morbid conditions (sleep apnea, obesity-related heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, elevated lipid profile, etc.). A successful obesity treatment program also must include a permanent change in caloric intake, energy expenditure, and behavior to achieve a permanent reduction in weight.
