WHAT IS THE ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS (RnY)?
The Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass or RnY is the most common weight loss procedure done in the US today. It is the ‘Gold Standard’ for weight loss surgery and all operations must compare themselves to it. It involves creating a small pouch in the upper stomach and rearranges the small intestine so that parts of its digestive abilities are bypassed. The stomach remnant remains in place, but no longer has any use. This operation has a higher complication rate and some nutritional problems, but a higher success rate than the ALB.
