What is the rotation of earth and its effect on day and night?
Rotation = turning on an axis. Earth’s axis is an imaginary line running from the North Pole to the South Pole. If you consider Earth’s orbit around the sun to be on an imaginary plane, the axis is tilted 23 1/2 degrees from the vertical in relation to that plane. Earth rotates from west to east. The speed of the rotation (how long it takes to make one complete rotation) determines how long a day is (and a night is), because it determines when a specific point on Earth can “see” the sun and when it can’t.
