What is the role of VAM in Bangladesh?
In Bangladesh there is considerable variation in the food security level from one part of the country to another. Extreme poverty, incidence of natural disasters, cultural practices and access to health facilities all play a role in explaining why certain areas are more vulnerable than others. Identifying these areas and understanding the food economies of vulnerable households residing in these areas is one of the key responsibilities of the Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) unit of WFP. The primary goal of VAM is to provide timely, accurate and operationally relevant information to WFP about the nature of food insecurity and vulnerability among the hungry poor.
