What is the role of the subwatershed study in land use planning?
The City commits through the Ottawa 20/20 Growth Management Strategy, which includes the Environmental Strategy and Official Plan, to take a watershed/subwatershed management approach to new and existing land development and in the protection of our natural resource features. Subwatershed plans are not land use planning documents but provide the recommendations to guide land use planning processes and decisions to ensure important environmental features and functions have been protected and conserved. The subwatershed plan can be conducted as part of a land use planning study (e.g. Community Design Plan) or independently.
