What is the role of the IVRS counselor?
A. The IVRS counselor specializes in vocational information, planning and services. The purpose of working with an IVRS counselor is to help a student identify his/her maximum potential for work and strive to achieve the best possible job to match that potential. The IVRS counselor will provide: 1. Outreach – sharing information on IVRS services, policies, programs and processes with educators, parents, students and other providers. 2. Employment Planning Consultation – providing assistance, strategies and creative ideas for identifying students’ post-school employment goal, service needs and barriers impeding goal achievement. Topics a counselor might address may include information on disabilities, assessments, assistive technology, accommodations, community resources, labor market information and employment. IVRS can only provide these services and financial supports for students whose active Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) has been developed. 3. Information and Referral –
