What is the role of the East of England Regional Assembly?
The East of England Regional Assembly has six main objectives: • To promote the social, economic and environmental well being of the region, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development in the interests of all those who live, work and visit the region, through a partnership of elected representatives drawn from the principal local authorities (the county councils, unitary councils and district councils) in the region, the Broads Authority and representatives of other regional stakeholder interests (“the Community Stakeholders”). • To undertake the function of designated Regional Planning Body for the region, as determined in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. As such it is responsible for the preparation of the Regional Spatial Strategy (Regional Plan).
