What is the role of the aide in the regular classroom?
Aides attend regular classroom instruction with special education students as a support to the student(s) and teacher. The most frequent duties include redirecting the attention of the student to help them stay on task, assisting with independent seat work, making minor physical adaptations as necessary, and making minor adaptations to the assignment the student is completed. Aides may also facilitate social interaction between special education students and the other students in the regular education program. Discipline is primarily the responsibility of the classroom teacher, but should be discussed thoroughly with your supervising teacher.
