State Cleanup • Purpose: • Responsible for the management of long-term remediation, or clean-up, projects that are not being addressed by the federal Superfund program or any other IDEM program. • Process: • Site referral • Site prioritization • Investigation report • Remedial work plan • Community relations plan • Agreed order, cleanup agreement • Opportunity for Public Participation: • Public notice • Public comment period • Public meeting • In sites with substantial threat to public health and the environment: • Remediation work plan placed on public notice • Public comment period • Note: Sites that represent a lesser threat to human health or the environment may have fewer public participation opportunities. IDEM’s state cleanup section works to mitigate all risks to human health and the environment through the investigation and remediation of sites.
