What is the role of religion in promoting a culture of peace?
Religion is a set of beliefs. There are many religions with many beliefs, so it is hard to pinpoint the role of religion in general, without knowing what specific beliefs are involved. However, religion can be a way for people to come together to support a cause, such as peace. But peace has to be part of the set of beliefs that the religion holds dear. The problem is that religion is not independent. It is intertwined with culture, politics, economics and society. So, for religion to play a role in promoting peace, the people who adhere to it not only have to want peace, but they also have to live in a society where the culture, politics and economics allow them to do so.
