When, today, Arabs ask questions such as “What do we want?” or “How can we succeed in getting what we want? they must bear in mind the living, progressive, creative attitude of our ancestors. Our criteria and landmarks must be in close relation to the acquisitions of human civilization today; but we must think in terms of the ways and means by which humanity can progress in future. In their long march towards progress, the nations of the world form a single column. There was a time when the Arabs were at the head, the leaders of this column. Today, our first concern must be our reintegration into the current of History. We have lingered too long on the sidelines. We must understand and assimilate modern civilization, in order that we may one day surpass it and continue to bear our glorious message to humanity. Modern civilization has perhaps disadvantages.
