What is the role of BIS in ISO 14001:1996 certification?
BIS is operating IS/ISO 14001:1996 certification under the Regulations framed under an Act of Parliament i.e. BIS Act, 1986. A number of organizations in the field of chemicals, cement, textiles, power generation, steel manufacturing, mining, pesticides, ceramic tiles, paper, engineering, etc., have been certified by BIS for IS/ISO 14001:1996. A copy of the `Guidelines for Applicants IS/ISO 14001:1996 can be obtained from nearby Regional or Branch Offices of BIS or from Headquarters at New Delhi.
