What is the role of an Advisor?
All full time faculty members will have advisees. 1) A faculty person should demonstrate an interest in students as persons– get to know backgrounds, limitations, interests, talents, assets, try to eliminate the “faceless” student. 2) The advisor will maintain a folder or iniformation with the student regarding such items as schedules, report cards, deficiencies, test results, activities, personal assessments, credits, graduation requirements. 3)Advisors will meet with advisees individually or in small groups and be available for additional consultation as determined by needs of the adivsee or the advisor. 4) Advisors will discuss personal conerns when desired or appropriate. Identify/refer potentially serious problems to the counselor. 5)Advisors will demonstrate in some way to parents that their child is cared about and that the advisor is available as a contact person; the advisor may wish to speak with parents by phone, write to them, have a conference with them, or devise a form
