What is the role of a Social Worker on the multidisciplinary team?
Like psychologists, social workers are also key members of the evaluation team that helps to determine eligibility for services and the level of service needed. They are trained to do psychosocial assessments that could be valuable to teams to help determine frequency and duration of psychological counseling. In addition, social workers can help coordinate a students related services so they work better together. They can communicate with health care providers, such as primary care physicians, concerning the medical/mental health status of the student to promote coordinated care. Social workers can also provide crisis assistance.
