What is the role of a Podiatrist? What do they do?

The role of the podiatrist (also know as a chiropodist) is to prevent or correct deformity and maintain normal mobility and function. Podiatrists provide the basis for the ideal walking style and posture and identify any medical or surgical condition that may require further referral and management. They also relieve pain, treat infections and skin, nail, soft tissue and connective tissue problems. This is done in conjunction with other members of the health care team. Podiatrists can also give expert advice on footwear, so it is a good idea to take a pair of shoes with you when you next see your podiatrist. So no I don’t think a podiatrist would trim an elderly peson’s toenails. That’s what CNA’s and relatives are for.

I think more people get pedicures, but podiatrists would do that for you.

podiatrists are doctor’s that specialize in feet. if you need someone to trim toenails then make an appointment at the local manicure and pedicure store.

yes they do and as answer #2 says..sometimes patients need special foot care because of medical conditions and the podiatrists will do it (or supervise getting it done) at their office.
