What is the rocks and minerals lab exam like?
There are 50 samples total. There are slightly more rocks than minerals (usually). Each sample is in a little box with a number. The number matches the number on your answer sheet. Your answer sheet will specify whether the sample is a rock or mineral. So if you have to guess, you’ll at least know if you have to guess a rock name or a mineral name. There will be 10 samples per table. And all the testing equipment will be on each table. You first take the exam as an individual. That means I give the members of each group about 10 minutes to name all the samples on their table. Then I switch the group to another table for about 10 minutes. If you study, this is more than enough time. In fact, it’s usually way too much time. I will monitor your progress. There is no going back.
