The Solaris Operating System has a single code base for all systems. This means that Solaris on x64/x86 has the same features and functionality as it does on SPARC systems, and it follows Sun’s normal software life cycle policy. Thus, Solaris on x64/x86 shares a common roadmap with Solaris on SPARC; the same features and functionality are found on both platforms. However, there are instances where x64/x86 hardware does not support certain system specific functionality such as the Dynamic Reconfiguration functions found in Sun’s high-end servers.
