What is the road Atlas of BC?
The Road Atlas of BC is a digital database that contains roads, key sites and facilities, and a basemap. This database was made by GIS Innovations primarily by driving essentially every road in BC with SUVs equipped with GPS and on-board data capture systems. This massive amount of field data was processed, integrated and eventually turned into a “single line road network”. The Road Atlas of BC now includes: • ROADS – “all” public roads in BC, primarily based upon GPS, and includes road name, address ranging, and navigation (speeds, stops, # of lanes, truck limits and other routing information); • SITES – a selected list of key sites & facilities like parks, schools, police-fire-ambulance stations, airports, ferry terminals, transit stations, bus depots, civic & recreation facilities, and so forth; • BASEMAP a background map derived from TRIM and other BC base map data under license.
