What is the rev limit of the GoWesty engines?

0

All of the GoWesty rebuilt engines employ a lighter and stronger forged piston. The 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 also have a counter weighted crankshaft. So all of the GoWesty rebuilt engines can theoretically be revved higher than the original design because of the lower reciprocating mass of the internal components, and the counter weighted crankshaft in the case of the 2.3 and larger displacements. However, the rev limit of these engines is controlled by the engine management system, and is set at 5600 rpm. If you try to rev the engine higher than that, the injection system will shut down momentarily until the engine speed has dropped. Furthermore, it would be pointless to rev the engine any higher that about 5000 rpm because the power output starts to drop at that point. It is well known that the original, unmodified waterboxer engine can be operated at 4000-5000 rpm all day and night without any negative consequences. Indeed, the high mileage record holder we that we have seen in our shop is
