What is the residency requirement in the doctoral program?
The purpose of residency is to provide doctoral students with an opportunity for sustained involvement in activities that broaden intellectual growth, facilitate faculty-student interactions that promote scholarship and mentoring, enhance understanding of the professional counseling and counselor education fields, and encourage meaningful peer interactions. Doctoral students must complete the equivalent of 2 semesters of residency (9 semester hours per residency semester) in which they participate in research, scholarly, and departmental activities. (Students do not have to live in Commerce during their doctoral residency).
