The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the new process for assessing research in UK Higher Education institutions. It replaces the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) delivered a briefing at the Vitae Research Staff Conference in November 2009 on ‘What the REF will mean for research staff’ .
