What is the relevance of Biblically-Based Coaching?
Even though coaching has been around for a couple of decades, the industry overall is still in its infancy. In the past decade, businesses have begun to see the importance of the objectivity and structure that coaching can provide to positively effect profit. From an individual perspective, people in general are now beginning to understand and appreciate the concept of coaching and the value that it can create in their lives (e.g., marital coaching, life coaching, wellness coaching, etc.). The “Church” typically adopts new approaches and concepts slower than does the culture in general. Counseling and therapy was held at arms length at one time, but now they are generally valued in the Church. Coaching is being accepted in the same manner. Coaching is now being adopted as a means to honor the individual and the purpose that God has given them, an activity distinct from discipleship and pastoral mentoring.
