What is the relationship between virginia.gov and VITA? Who provides Web development services?
Virginia Interactive (VI), subsidiary of NIC Corporation, trading as Virginia.gov, was awarded a contract through competitive solicitation to manage the state web portal and to develop e-government services for state agencies and local government that improve citizen access to government services and information. The contract with VI enables qualified public entities in Virginia to purchase services from Virginia.gov through VITA without having to go out for competitive bid, thereby minimizing costs and delays associated with public procurements. As VITA’s preferred e-government partner since September, 1997, Virginia.gov has a proven record providing quality services at competitive rates to agencies, local government and institutions of higher education across Virginia. On December 14, 2005, the Chief Information Officer for the Commonwealth exercised a final renewal of the contract with VI through August 31, 2012.
