What is the relationship between the PoE Consortium and the PoE Standards bodies?

0

The PoE Consortium is a separate entity from the IEEE 802.3 Working Group and Power over Ethernet Plus Study Group. The UNH-IOL was a significant contributor to the development of the DTE Power via MDI standard (IEEE 802.3af-2003), attending and participating in most of the DTE Power via MDI Task Force meetings from the initial Call for Interest (CFI) in July 1999, through the final meeting in March 2003. The test suites developed by the PoE Consortium are based heavily on the DTE Power via MDI standard. In addition, the PoE Consortium takes an active role in continuing to review the DTE Power via MDI standard and will submit maintenance and interpretation requests to the IEEE 802.3 Working Group when necessary.
