In 1986, David and Lucile Packard donated $40 million of their personal money for the construction of a new facility to house the children’s hospital at Stanford. The facility was ultimately named in memory of Mrs. Lucile Salter Packard, who was heavily involved in the design of the hospital and passed away before the hospital opened.
