Like the World Bank, the AfDB is one of the five multilateral development banks in the world. The others are the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (AsDB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IAfDB). The AfDB and the World Bank have a very close relationship, especially with regard to partnership and financing. However, the AfDB remains totally independent of the World Bank.
