ADO .NET provides uniform data access between different tiers in the .NET framework. ADO .NET and SDO share similar motivators for supporting XML and applications distributed on multiple tiers. Other than technical differences, one major difference between the two technologies is that ADO .NET is for the Microsoft .NET platform whereas SDO is for the Java (J2EE) platform.
