What is the relationship between Santee Cooper and the electrical cooperatives?
A. Santee Cooper generates the electricity that 2 million people in South Carolina use. We have multiple groups of customers. One group is the approximately 160,000 customers who receive this electricity directly from Santee Cooper. Another customer group is the state’s 20 electric cooperatives. We generate the electricity and provide it to the cooperative as we would to those we directly serve, and then the co-operatives supply the electricity they receive from Santee Cooper to their customers. We also serve 32 large industrial customers, the municipalities of Bamberg and Georgetown and the Charleston Air Force Base.
