What is the relationship between philosophy, ethics and bioethics?
Answer I’ll admit that this sounds a bit like a homework question, but I’ll give you some guidelines. Philosophy, classically understood, is the love of wisdom and truth. Ethics is a branch of philosophy which seeks to determine right conduct. Bioethics is a branch which of ethics dealing with the ethical ramifications of methods in the biological sciences. I’ll let you answer the first part of question two, but the second part I’ll also comment on. Definition is important because we need to know precisely what we are talking about; it’s also important because it can shape our perceptions. Take the abortion controversy: You feel differently about “Anti-Choice” than you do about “Pro-Life”, and you feel different about “Pro-Choice” than you do about “Pro-Abortion”. You feel different about “unborn baby” than you do about “fetus” or “embryo”, regardless of which one is more accurate (I’ll not comment here on which side I come down upon, for the sake of neutrality). So too is it important
