What is the relationship between moderate Muslims and extremists?
What’s really dangerous about this meme – and I’m not pointing any fingers at the questioner, it is a widespread and often repeated meme – is the ultimate conclusion it arrives at. It goes something like this – “the moderate Muslim masses are failing to reach our arbitrary standard of what is sufficent condemnation of terrorism. Therefore, the Muslim masses by their silence condone or even support terrorism. We know terrorism is wrong, but the Muslims clearly do not. This is because they are not as civilized as us. It is our duty to help them become civilised. We do this by dropping many bombs on them from a great height until they learn what civilization truly means.” I as a Muslim am expected to condemn every random act of terrorism, as if the assumption is that I support it, until I speak out and say I do not. Even when I do speak up, it is not enough unless I march in the streets. Even if I march in the streets, it is not enough until it gets on your six o clock news. Tell you what
