What is the relationship between interim registration and the registration of new qualifications and standards?
Interim registration process, which started in June of 1998, was completed in June 2003. During this process SGBs were established to evaluate and refine current qualifications and to propose relevant changes to existing qualifications and to generate new standards and qualifications. After 30 June 2003, a process for full registration of these qualifications was introduced. In this regard, SAQA decided that all interim registered qualifications be fully registered on the NQF for 3 years, that is from 1 July 2003 until 30 June 2006 except for those qualifications that have been replaced by new qualifications. During the period until June 2006, there will be a review of qualifications in terms of NSB Regulations 10(3), in consultation with the providers, to decide which qualifications should be discontinued, those that will be prioritised for standards generation and which qualifications on the basis of quality assurance information and human resource capacity needed in the country shou
