What is the relationship between idenity and work identity and how does this relationship impact on organisational outcomes?
There are numerous factors that affect how we define work. Our personal, professional, career orientation, organisational identities amongst other things impact work identity. The fit between personal, organisational and work identities result in a positive job choice and employee engagement. The more the person has to compromise on who they are the less engaged the individual is to their work and the organisation. There is a trend in developing economies towards individualisation towards work. This means that there in no formal frame of reference to new job entrants and places the onus on employers to guide these entrants. There are currently no practices in place to manage this aspect of work life which results in high turnover amongst new job entrants.
