What is the relationship between IA and Operations Security (OPSEC)?
Information Assurance and OPSEC are inter-related, their intentions are to protect information. The information that IA protects is electronic data stored and transmitted on electronic mediums, while OPSEC is the practice of securing or protecting personally identifiable information (PII), mostly through the practice of personal safety and situational awareness. The most important asset for any organization is its people. That said, the easiest source for gaining critical, personal, and unpublished (insider) information is through social engineering. People are said to be the weakest link of any security plan and implementation. IA Awareness training OPSEC training go hand in hand to help preserve the safety our people as well as the confidentiality of our information.
