What is the relationship between Fresenius Medical Care, North America and HIT Services Group?
Fresenius Medical Care Holdings, Inc. (FMCNA) currently holds the exclusive right to use and sublicense the use of HIT Services Group, LLC’s (HITSG’s) AcumenTM web-based electronic health record software to nephrologists in the United States. The system is branded as “Fresenius Medical Care CKD Solutions- nEHR” and “Fresenius Medical Care CKD Solutions – Data Registry.” Under the agreement, FMCNA may assist nephrology practices in adopting the nEHR by donating funds towards the initial expense of the software. HITSG will provide training to physician practice groups using the software including ongoing support services. Safe harbors adopted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) and the Office of Inspector General (“OIG”) grants regulatory relief from the Federal Anti-Kickback and Anti-Self-Referral statutes for compliant donations of Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology.
