WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH, HOPE AND CHARITY?
*** Many spiritual men and women have written about these three great virtues. They are called theological virtues because they unite us to God. They are the most important virtues because they relate us directly to him. Faith unites us to God, as we know him by his divine revelations; hope unites us to God, as we wait with confidence for the blessed moment when we will enjoy his presence in heaven; charity unites us to God through our love for him. FAITH in Jesus Christ is what makes us Christians. It is a gift from God and also an act of free will on our part. Our human intellect, under the influence of our will and God s grace, accepts the revealed truths because of God s authority. If these revealed truths are put forward by the Church, our faith is catholic. Our faith is the foundation of our supernatural life and is a source of holiness, because it nourishes us with revealed truths.
