What is the relationship between Eugenics and the Nature vs. Nurture debate?
Eugenics holds that you can improve the race by culling the defectives. It’s easily compared to breeding livestock. Eugenics also lead to the Nazi “master race” and the death camps. In the US it meant the forced sterilization of those judged “defective.” Just who and what criteria was used varied or if there were any standards at all. The Nature vs Nurture is the on going debate of how much of us is from our genes and how much from how we’re raised. Eugenics comes down squarely on the “Nature” side.Those that don’t measure up so a supposed standard are automatically classified and that’s it. Never mind that many overcome disabilities and lead productive lives.That is the, Nurture part.
