What is the relationship between Emergency Social Services (ESS) Program and the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP)?
A. Under the Ministry of Attorney General (MAG), PEP is responsible for the provincial government’s overall emergency management program. In an emergency or disaster, PEP provides leadership and coordination to those provincial government ministries and crown corporations with a role in emergency response, including the ESS Program. Under the Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security (MSDES), the ESS Program is responsible for planning and coordinating provincial government involvement in the provision of ESS. The ESS Program operates within the overall emergency management framework established by PEP, and works alongside local governments to ensure the well-being of people affected by emergencies or disasters. The ESS Program develops plans, procedures and policies; coordinates training; designs exercises, and as requested, responds to emergencies throughout the province.
