What is the relationship between ELECT and Afghanistan’s electoral bodies?
The Independent Election Commission (IEC), which is mandated to administer all elections in the country, is UNDP/ELECT’s principle partner. UNDP/ELECT assists the IEC by providing technical assistance, advice, and other support. A similar role is played with the Electoral Complaints Commission and the Media Commission, which are independent bodies established by the 2004 Constitution but which require support to cope with the challenges posed by the upcoming elections.
