What is the relationship between ABS, TK and PIC?
PIC is a key principle of ABS and, at the community level is understood as requiring bioprospectors (in cases where the interests of Aboriginal peoples are involved) to gain the informed consent of Aboriginal peoples before they collect genetic resources from Aboriginal territories. The concept of PIC is therefore closely linked to TK and increases the role of Aboriginal communities in the exploitation of genetic resources.
