What is the relation between UNeDocs and XML?
The electronic definition of a trade document is only useful if there is software that can process the document. UNeDocs will provide document definitions in UN/EDIFACT syntax in the form of message implementation guides. However, UN/EDIFACT data processing software is expensive and usually restricted to large enterprises. In the recent years XML has emerged as a standard for electronic trade documents. Today, many office applications such as Internet browsers, word processors and databases are already XML enabled. In addition XML integrates well into the Internet. Thus XML is the obvious choice for small companies and for developing countries or transitional economies. UNeDocs supports these user groups by publishing electronic document definitions also in XML Schema language.
