What is the regulatory framework governing Research Ethics Boards in Quebec?
• The Fonds de recherche en santé du Québec’s (FRSQ) Research Ethics and Scientific Integrity Guidelines (2003) address REB membership and require REBs to be independent of all financial or material advantages and to maintain administrative independence. The Guidelines also provide requirements relative to confidentiality, consent and risks of research. • It is important to underline that individual institutions, such as hospitals, may have internal governance frameworks for research evaluation and REBs. Such frameworks must respect provincial and national law.
