What is the Regulatory Cost Recovery fee?

0

AT&T imposes a Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee of $2.97 per month to offset costs incurred in complying with regulatory obligations, including Federal Universal Service Fund payments made by AT&T. This fee is not a tax or charge imposed by a government entity. All telecommunications service providers are required to contribute to the Federal Universal Service Fund. The Universal Service Fund subsidizes programs for schools, libraries and health care providers. AT&T recovers the cost of these contributions through a surcharge on its customer’s bills. Effective August 14, 2006, the regulatory cost recovery fee is being eliminated. Any charges after that date will be credited back to the customer.
