Under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, responsibility for Health Services falls to the Regional Municipality of York. York Region recently began bird surveillance activities in April and mosquito surveying begins in May. The Region will be applying the larvicide Methoprene to all catch basins on Markham roads. The Town of Markham will support the Region of York, Health Services Department in education and outreach initiatives and source reduction and surveillance activities on Town property related to West Nile Virus within the community.
