What is the Red Snapper World Championship tournament and Saltwater Series Tournament about?
This tournament is about MONEY. The World Championship Red Snapper Tournament originated in 2004 by Zeke’s Marina, by trying to get people to come fishing during the slow time of the year. Red Snapper season used to open on April 21 and the bag limits were 4 per person. The season was open until Oct. 31 each year. This tournament was a way to get people to come fishing and help the marinas and charter boats book fishing trips during the slow time of the year. The marinas and charter boat captains, sold tickets to those anglers who wanted to participate in the tournament. The proceeds were used by the tournament owners to make money, generate booking fees, to pay the winning anglers and get matching funds from the Government to build artificial reefs “concrete pyramids” for fish to inhabit. The World Championship Snapper Tournament rocked on for about 4 years until most consumers mostly lost interest in it.
