What is the Red Cross doing to help people recover from this disaster?
A The Red Cross is leading local efforts to integrate evacuees into the community, providing stability and a platform for rebuilding lives and families. The Red Cross is beginning an effort to leverage technology to place in its shelters a Web-based Coordinated Assistance Network (CAN). This single database allows many government and relief agencies to reduce the redundancy of applying for assistance both in the interim and the long-term by sharing mass care information. It enables the Red Cross to track shelter residents, assess shelter capacity and share information among response agencies, and facilitate case management work. Logistics are being finalized for a nationwide solution to make emergency financial assistance available to the thousands of people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
