What is the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Onondaga Lake bottom site?
On July 1, 2005 a remedy was selected for cleanup of the Onondaga Lake bottom site, a subsite of the Onondaga Lake National Priorities List Site. The selected remedy is documented in the Record of Decision (ROD). The ROD was issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), in cooperation with the New York State Department of Health. As of January 4, 2007 the Consent Decree between the NYSDEC and Honeywell for the lake bottom cleanup was approved by a federal judge. The Consent Decree is the actual execution of the cleanup plan for Onondaga Lake as outlined in the ROD. The ROD is based on the Remedial Investigation (RI), completed in 2002, which studied the characteristics and extent of the contamination in Onondaga Lake.
