16′ is the maximum we have been suggesting to European-horse breeders in order to save posts and work. If you are living in non windy area If you live in a very windy area do not exceed 10 ft between each post, and make sure you stress the tape enough with the proper tensioners #36W . . If your installation is also to decorate your surrounding and because of your American tradition of rail-fence (here in Europe a 2 strands of tape with 16′ separation between post is acceptable) you should reduce the separations.
