What is the recommended number of pupils/classroom (for example, resistant materials)?
PTR (Pupil Teacher Ratio) recommendations are in the D&T Association’s Survey of Provision for Design and Technology in Schools in England and Wales. At KS3 D&T Association recommends 20 and at KS4 18, but the average is 21 for KS3 (19 for KS4) according to the 2004/2005 survey. If you need to address overcrowding in your classes, the D&T Association recommends you put together a paper for SMT and/or governors about maintaining quality and standards, how these have been achieved in the past (i.e. manageable class sizes) and how D&T has contributed to overall school improvement.
